How to calm a crying baby

Hey mama, when your baby is fussy and nothing seems to calm them down, don't panic.

It can be a challenging situation for any mama. Here's a 5 step technique that can help soothe a fussy baby and provide them with comfort:

  • Lay baby down
  • Turn baby on side
  • Cross baby arms
  • Pick baby up (facing downward)
  • Rock baby back and forth (head to toe)

What is the purpose of crossing my baby's arms?

This position can mimic the cozy environment of the womb and make your baby feel more secure.

Why is it important to face my baby downward while rocking?

Placing your baby downward while rocking can help alleviate discomfort and reduce the feeling of 'falling' on their back.

When your baby is rocked on its back, the central nervous system is more likely to produce a signal that mimics a falling sensation which can sometimes startle and upset your baby.

Why do I need to rock my baby?

Gently rock your baby back and forth (head to toe) this can help stimulate pressure in the womb, which can be soothing for your baby, providing them with a sense of comfort.

What is the correct way to hold my baby?

It's important to use both arms to hold your baby securely, with one arm placed around the upper chest and one around the lower legs. This mimics the baby being swaddled and can help them feel safe and secure.

Remember, every baby is different, so it's essential to pay attention to your baby's cues and adjust your soothing techniques accordingly. You know your baby better than anyone and what works for you.
